Hi everyone! I am a medical doctor by training and was first introduced to sport climbing back in November 2015. However I only started climbing more regularly since April 2016 and have been hooked ever since! I can’t go 3 days of no climbing without getting “withdrawal symptoms”. =P To me, climbing is not just a physical sport. For those of you who’ve read Randy Pausch’s “The Last Lecture”, you would be familiar with the famous quote “The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.” Climbing to me has brought out a completely different element to my character, teaching me about resilience, and giving me more confidence. Of course it has also provided me with a escape mechanism from the hectic-ness of life in general.
I first came across cute chalk bags when I started scaling the walls of CC. And after getting my first plushie converted chalk bag, it also led to many new friendships formed as people started initiating conversation wanting to know how I managed to make my chalk bag. I’m usually an introvert by nature, so imagine turning into a completely different person just because of climbing (and cute chalk bags)!
Apart from climbing and sewing (and working of course), in my spare time, I enjoy doing volunteer work such as running free clinics for migrant workers under the Mount Alvernia Outreach Programme, working on my NGO activities (Tobacco Free Generation), running, travelling and hiking in various parts of the world. If you ever see Lina and I climbing in any of the gyms, don’t be shy to come up and say hi (even if you may not want to get a new chalk bag). Who knows, the next new big and bright idea may spark off from just a small conversation.
Thank you for supporting Chalk’em Up! 🙂
Hello~ I started climbing when Eileen brought our cousins to climb on the 2nd day of Chinese New Year in 2017. After that session, …. I am sure you guys know what happened><
Hobbies? Well… for now, its Climbing and Anime :3 Only going outside for climbing and staying at home to rot while watching shows on your phone/computer? That’s me!
Chalk’em Up! started with Eileen’s idea and I was invited to help her in the process of making the chalk bags too. Though a lot of things are new to me in sewing, it is fun to learn and worth it thanks to all of you who are interested in buying them!
I usually go to CC to climb but i do go to other gyms once in a while too! When you guys see me or Eileen around, don’t be afraid to talk to us ok? 😉
